INFINITI QX65 Debuts Gold-Infused Paint Option

INFINITI QX65’s striking new color features real gold. Inspired by sunrises, the new paint is also an homage to an iconic GT-R color.

 

The all-new 2027 INFINITI QX65 is already turning heads for its bold fastback design—but one of its most unique features lies in its paint. INFINITI has introduced a stunning new color that quite literally shines with real gold, elevating the QX65’s presence to an entirely new level.

“This color had to feel special enough for INFINITI. Sunfire Red isn’t something you’d see everywhere; it’s something people will remember,” said Yasuhito Oba, color designer in the Advanced Design Department.

A First-of-Its-Kind Finish: Sunfire Red

Debuting in a rich, radiant hue called Sunfire Red, the QX65 features a paint finish infused with real gold-coated glass flakes. This innovative approach gives the SUV a deep, luminous quality that shifts depending on lighting and viewing angle.

Inspired by the warmth and glow of a sunrise, Sunfire Red delivers a dynamic appearance—appearing deeper and more dramatic in low light, while revealing shimmering gold highlights under direct sunlight.

This isn’t just paint—it’s a carefully crafted visual experience designed to enhance the QX65’s sculpted body lines and coupe-like silhouette.

The Craft Behind the Color

INFINITI didn’t take shortcuts when developing this standout finish. The Sunfire Red paint uses a three-layer (tri-coat) process to achieve its signature depth and brilliance:

  • A rich red base coat

  • A transparent mid-coat infused with gold-coated glass flakes

  • A protective clearcoat for added shine and durability

Because real gold is used in the process, production requires extra care—from secure transport of materials to precision application techniques. The result is a finish that feels more like fine jewelry than traditional automotive paint, offering a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in the segment.

A Nod to Performance Heritage

Interestingly, this gold-infused paint isn’t entirely new to the INFINITI/Nissan family. The color draws inspiration from the iconic Regal Red finish on the Nissan GT-R, which also incorporated gold elements to create a distinctive, performance-driven look.
